UCD Medicine Route Requirements

Academic entry (indicative only)

Entry is likely to align closely with the current sponsored Medicine profile we already see at the centre.

Overall scores are typically very high, often around 98%, with a likely minimum in the 92–95% range.

At DISC we already accept A Levels, IB and other recognised high school certificates, so there is a strong indication that these will be acceptable for Medicine as well, provided they meet the overall and minimum thresholds.

Prerequisite subjects (Indicative)

Core subjects are expected to include:

Mathematics (mandatory)

Chemistry (mandatory)

Plus, another science such as Biology or Physics etc.

Expected progression threshold

Overall, 70%, with a minimum of 65% in core modules.

This is likely to be a firm requirement with no negotiation if not met.

External tests

UCAT, MCAT, etc. are not required for entry to Medicine at UCD.

Duration

1-year IFY at Dublin ISC

6 years Medicine at UCD

English language (firm)

Likely minimum IELTS 6.0 overall, with no band below 5.5, or recognised equivalents.

Duolingo: is accepted:105 overall and 95 in each component for Medicine-route students.

HKDSE English 4 is not expected to be sufficient for this route and may not be accepted.

Application / interview

No personal statement is required at this stage.

There will be one interview with the School of Medicine to assess motivation and suitability.

A successful interview would lead to an unconditional IFY offer on the Medicine route.

We have requested that interview guidelines be shared in advance; once confirmed, we will update you.

After completing IFY, there is no further interview, but students must meet the academic progression criteria.
